Judi had an interesting overnight experience: Her air conditioner went on the blink in the middle of the night, and besides making terrible clanking noises it began leaking water. The water happened to drop directly on the metal shade of her bedside lamp, from whence is splattered in a fine shower over her head and shoulders. I had to drape a towel over her lampshade to prevent the splattering.
We all had the ribs and seasoned rice with real ice tea at Beau Beau's for our farewell lunch today. I've already explained how glorious both the ribs and the rice are, so I won't repeat myself, but this is the place to go if you want ribs on St. Maarten. Heck, this is the place to go is you want ribs anywhere in the world. And you get a lot of them, too.
The battery in Judi's watch is going, and as a result it's running very slow. While we were sitting in Beau Beau's about 10:30 this morning Judi said:
"It's 7:00 o'clock."
Ten minutes later: "It's 7:03."
Another ten minutes later: "It's 7:05."
A few minutes later, Judi's face brightening suddenly: "My watch is on St. Maarten time!"
We did get bitten by those invisible low-altitude mosquitoes while eating at Beau Beau's. We'll have to bring mosquito repellent if we ever come back.
Permit me to say again (I've said it before) that the airport in San Juan sucks, sucks, sucks. It sucks that you have to walk so far. It sucks that you have to walk so far with your checked bags. It sucks that you have to go through security again when you have so plainly already been through once. It just sucks.

However, we did have the privilege, as our baggage was being unloaded so we could go through Customs and have it re-searched and re-loaded, of having our carry-ons sniffed by a valiant member of the Beagle Brigade! She was cute but let me tell you she was all business.
And however, they do have a great duty-free shop in SJU, and you can shop there and get great duty-free prices even if you're returning to the States, and you don't have to go through Customs (because you've been already) so you can buy as much as you want! (That is, as much as you can carry.) Look for this shop if you're returning to the States via San Juan. Oh, and they give you neato mosquito (speaking of mosquitoes) reusable carry bags for free if you buy bottles of liquor.
Now, as I write this, I'm on a plane to Orlando. It's over. Au revoir, St. Maarten.
