The best laid plans...
Skye was being cared for by a foster mom in Connecticut. Arranging for her transport to Florida turned out to be more complicated than we had anticipated. First, she had pneumonia and was too sick to travel. When she had recovered, our first thought was to fly up and bring her back, but no airline would allow her to fly in the passenger compartment, even if we bought her a ticket, and Judi wouldn't hear of having her in with the luggage. So then we made plans to drive. In case you haven't looked at a map lately, it's a pretty long way from Florida to Connecticut, but Sashi -- truly an angel who has descended to Earth to help us poor mortal beings -- offered to drive up and get her and bring her down to meet us in Virginia. Wonderful! But then, not so wonderful, business trips interfered and pushed the transport back. Finally, we settled on a weekend. And then... proof that even angels can't always make things go their way, we got this message from Sashi:

Subject: Saturday Skye Transport -- Snowy Weather?
Date: 1/20/2005
Judi & Olga,
I've spent the last half hour looking at different weather webpages for forecasts this weekend -- and I have to say it does -not- look good for Saturday. It's actually suppose to snow in Washington DC tonight!
It seems the forecast is for the snow to begin Saturday morning and go through Sunday morning. The majority of the storm apparently will BE Saturday.
I can switch from driving my Saturn to a Chevy 4-wheel-drive Blazer, but if it's supposed to start in the AM and go all day, it could make travel time in all of this double -- for both me and you, Judi.
I imagine with the distance you are driving, rescheduling to Sunday is not possible (hopefully the roads would be clearer by then?). Do we need to reconsider and think of doing this next weekend?
Believe me, it -kills- me to even suggest it... I want Skye to get to her new home ASAP... but if they -are- talking a minimum of 6-12 inches of snow... traveling in that storm may not be safe for all concerned.
