Okay, on to today. Today was a beach day, and we spent a couple of hours getting toasted on Eagle Beach, which is the beach in front of La Cabana, our resort. It's a very nice beach, with chairs, and huts for shade, but it fills up fast. It was hot, but the water was cool and refreshing and would have been flat and perfect for floating and soaking up rays on our Swimways if it wasn't for the water sporters -- the jet skis and speedboats and banana boats -- that kicked up swells. Also, the wind was strong, and when we were floating it blew us away from the beach very quickly. Also, the bottom dropped off sharply as you got out into the water, so most of the crowds were grouped within fifteen feet of shore.
So, as a beach, it gets mixed marks. It's not as nice as some of the beaches in St. Maarten. But at the same time, we enjoyed ourselves and got some nice sun on the last day of October. It's really not fair to compare to the beaches in St. Maarten, because, well, we aren't in St. Maarten, and it's not like we can jump in the jalopy and toodle over to St. Maarten. I really should compare it to beaches on Aruba, but I haven't been to any other beaches on Aruba, so I can't. Hey... we had a good time.
Today was a beach day. What more can I say? It was very relaxing. Eagle Beach -- the beach in front of our resort -- has great sand and smooth water for floating on Swimways, though the water gets very deep very fast, and the incessant wind carries up away from the shore quickly when we are floating. But it was still very relaxing. And there was lots of opportunity for people-watching and people-speculating, which always makes for an entertaining day at the beach. Especially when you're there with Judi.
Eagle Beach at the end of the day...
This is our final full day. I went down to the beach this evening to take pictures in the light of the setting sun. The resort (which, in case you've missed it, is enormous) has check-ins on Fridays (today), Saturdays (when we checked in), and Sundays. So when I was making my way down to the beach I was passing hordes of people who were getting their new pool towels, looking around and pointing, and obviously just starting their stays here in Aruba, while I had to face the sad, sad fact that I will be leaving tomorrow. It's so unfair. All check-ins should be on the same day, so we will be out and gone before we have to see these happy people. You have a great week ahead of you, people. I wish I did again.
